Intro To Editing

You will set some goals for the editing unit. Take a moment to determine three goals that you'd like to make that you can complete by the end of the editing unit. What are these three goals? Why have you chosen them?

In this unit I would like to better my color grading skills, paying more attention to detail when it comes to specific pieces of shots, and being able to edit with intent. I chose color grading because I love the use of color in film and if I could further that craft and be able to match color with a film and scene Id feel accomplished. I want to pay more attention to detail so that I can be able to feel better about my work knowing I put my all into this work. I want to have more intent when it comes to my editing so that all of my work has an intent and story to every piece of it.

Set Safety/Career Readiness Summary

What are three key things that you learned in these units on the following topics:

Set Safety/Etiquette

Career Readiness

Digital Citizenship

Copyright

How can you begin using this going forward?  Why are they important to know?

I learned how important all of these things are but the ones that stuck out most to me are copyright, career readiness, and set safety. For copyright I learned a lot more things than I thought I would; I learned that theres different loopholes to copyright and also that it's been around since our founding fathers. With career readiness I learned that there are many skills and mindsets you must have to be career ready to the MAX. You must be presentable, have initiative, creativity, credibility, and accountability. For set safety it is important to practice this to have a steady well organized work environment. BE A GOOD EMPLOYEE.

Fair Use

Explain the concept of fair use in your own words? How do you think you can you apply fair use to you work that you create in this class?

Fair Use I would say would be using copyrighted material in a "tasteful" way, like only using a little bit of it or using it in a different way than the creator and paying credit to the creator. I could use fair use in class by sampling work or using a snippet of a song or even paying homage to a film but not directly copying it. However, in fair use, you CANNOT make profit off of your creation if you used fair use. If you are going to use the concept of fair use you must except the fact that you will not profit from it.

Music and Copyright on Youtube

How are music and copyright used on Youtube?  How can you properly use a song in your video?

Music and Copyright on youtube is used to prevent someone from using another persons music without their permission and gaining a profit from that. You can use a persons music if you buy a right to it however, there are certain guidelines you must follow in order to use the music. If you use another persons song without their permission even if you're just humming or playing an instrumental to it they could file a content ID claim against you resulting in a copyright strike.

DO NOT USE SOMEONES SONG WITHOUT PERMISSION, YOU WILL GET COPYRIGHTED. ðŸ˜¡

How Much Screen Time Is Too Much?

What does this video have to say about screen time's effect?  Based on the video, reflect on your own screen time habits. How do they compare to the suggestions and concerns raised, and what changes (if any) would you consider making to manage your screen time more effectively?

This video says that it's not exactly the SCREEN or the phone that is affecting you but more so it's the content you're absorbing. Someone could only absorbed the most wholesome content for 10 hrs and be perfectly content, but someone could watch 1 hr of some really upsetting content and end up super depressed. I have 10 hrs of screen time but I am fairly happy cause I absorb content that helps me.

ONLINE DISINHIBITION EFFECT

Do you feel the internet is making people meaner? What might be some examples of this in our current world? Why do you feel this way?

The internet is definitely making people meaner. They have the security of being able to hide behind a screen without any consequences so they feel free to act however they want. People only show the smallest parts of their lives on social media and we only see what they allow us to but some people on the internet will only see those parts and find reasons to be mean to them because they have no idea what else is going on in their life so they don't care about how much their words might affect the other person.

Age and Social Media

What age do you think is appropriate to start social media for kids? What are the advantages and/or risks to that age? Why do you feel this way?

I think that kids shouldn't have social media until they are at least in highschool, however, there is never going to be a sure way for us to monitor how old they are and if they're being truthful about their age. The advantages of social media for the youth would be finding communities and building more connections as well as being able to use that platform to be passionate about what they believe in. The major risks about social media are the negative comments, people are going to find any reason to tear someone down and they will most definitely use an identity they can hide behind to do so. Another thing would be the dangers of predators, you don't REALLY know who is behind that account that you talking to unless you already had known them in real life. Anybody can pretend to be anyone so you never really know and you can put yourself in a very dangerous situation.

Career Readiness Skills

What are career readiness skills? Give three examples of what you feel are effective employability skills that you think could help you get a good job. Why are they important?

Career readiness skills consist of creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication. To effectively be employable you have to have a basic understanding of common sense as well as a strong work ethic and motivation. I feel like having a strong work ethic would help me get a job because it shows that I am organized and ready to come into work. If I had basic common sense it would help me get anywhere in life but most importantly a job because it would show I know how to use well rounded thinking skills in my work life. Motivation will help because it shows how driven I am to come to work everyday and how important that job is to me and how willing I am to work my way up into the jobs hierarchy. These are all important because without at least one of them your chances of getting ANYWHERE in life are pretty slim. <3

Set Safety Summary

Now that you've completed the set safety and etiquette lecture, why is it so important? What parts of it do you think will be difficult to follow? What parts would you like to learn more about?

Set safety is important because it creates a well organized work environment. It ensures that your cast and crew can work efficiently and safely if there are protocols and etiquette to be followed. Without set safety the set would be a MESS and people would DIE. Without set safety there wouldn't be a organized way of working hindering the flow of the set causing everyone more stress. Something that seems difficult to follow would be tripping hazards cause I trip a lot and on everything. Something I'd like to learn more about would be the like "hierarchy" system on a set and how that would affect the way you are perceived on a set.

Film Etiquette

What are three key points this article makes on etiquette on set.

This article simplifies all the points of etiquette you should know and puts them in into one words so that they can remember them more. The ones that stuck out the most and seemed the most important to me were.

1. Copy that.

You should "copy that" to let everyone else know that you know what you have to do so they can rely on you.

2. Keep yourself busy.

Keep yourself busy because you should never be standing around and there will always be something to do on a production.

3. Quiet on set.

you should NEVER interrupt a scene

Vertial Video

Why is vertical video a bad idea? Have you taken one? Why?

Vertical videos are UGLY, HORRENDOUS, DISGUSTING, ATROCIOUS, and RANCID. I think we should ban vertical videos. Don't let me near long form vertical video or else only one of us will be leaving and it WILL be me. You have such small space to get a good shot. We don't view the world vertically ( well in the sense that we don't view the world with two black bars blocking the rest of our view so we can't see the rest and its just a random strip). Horizontal videos are the way to go because that is a more accurate representation of how we view things. Horizontal videos can immerse you into the world that the videographer, director, creator, etc. is trying to make because its in a perspective that you view everyday so you can view it the way that would be most accurate if you were inside that world. With that being said, I HATEEEEEEEE VERTICAL VIDEOS 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 THEY ARE A DISGRACE AND SHOULD BE DESTROYED (I will go terminator mode on a vertical video ( saw terminator last night wink. wink.) 😊

Setting Goals

For this class I have the intent of being more ambitious than not so I will set high yet realistic goals for myself. With a class focused on the career field I want to go into I want to have goals that will ready me for said career.

    1. I want to have a more clear and well rounded understanding of how to operate technical equipment, more especially cameras. I want to be able to confidently be able to use equipment and not have people I work with worry about if I can execute the job well.

    2. I wish to gain more knowledge about the history of films and filmmaking, I believe that in any career field you passionately want to go into you should have a good understanding on the background of the field.  I want to have a well versed understanding of the history so I can go about this career with the knowledge that I will feel confident about and that can further my understanding of this career.

    3. I want to gain a better understanding of how to efficiently watch films, I want to watch films for entertainment obviously but also view them from a critical and analytical stand point. I think that if I can understand a film and pick out every detail and analyze the story and world as well as all the technical workings behind it I think that will help further my craft.

The Magic Of Movies

Why are movies so magical?  Why are they special to you?

Movies are so magical because it is a universal language. Yes, not every film people will be able to understand and not ever film is in a persons desired language but if we take those elements out and go back to the beginning of film-making it was silent. It was silent and it was strictly driven by feeling and acting. Movies are a painting put into motion (hence, motion picture) its a painting that moves, paintings are a universal language as well that just by starring at it you will feel something and most of the time you will feel what the artist intended for you to feel, films are made with the intent to make you feel something. If someone can make you feel exactly what they wanted you to feel that is the magic of film. It's essentially casting a spell on you. Movies are special to me because they were my escape, I had a rough upbringing and I used movies as my escape I used them to put me in a world I wanted to be in vs the world I was in. Movies were the language I was first fluent in.

How To Shoot An Interview

What are three key suggestions that this video brings up?  Why are each of these so important?  How could you use them in future production...
