Mise En Scene

What is mise-en-scene? How is the term used in the film industry? What are two reasons that it is so important?

Mise en scene is "placing on stage". Mise en scene for the film industry is everything in a shot that should remain consistent in said shot. This is important because it essentially makes up your style; it is how you remain consistent and how you show off your personal artistry. It also is important because it helps keep the audience in the world you build, without mise en scene you could pull your audience back into reality which ruins the magic of the world you build in your work.
