The Final Cut

What is the role of the final edit in the post-production process?  How is it different from the assembly and rough cuts?

The role of the final edit in the post-production process is to make final tweaks and redundancies. With the final cut you will also begin to place your music and add transitions that are set in stone. The final cut is different than the assembly and rough cut because with the assembly cut all you are doing is logging footage and starting to assemble it all together, with the rough cut its a brief outline of how it is going to look but with the final edit everything comes together.
