Chase Sequence Reflection

Think back to when you pitched your chase film.  How close is your final product to what you envisioned? Write an in-depth reflection on what went well and what challenges you had while making it.  Dig deep!  How did you perform on the project?

Our final product had to be tweaked a bit post pitch to ensure a decent chase sequence. I think the biggest struggle for us was scheduling. I don't think that I performed the best on it because of the conflicts with scheduling and my group. It was very difficult for us to see eye to eye on some points but at the end we were able to complete it.

How A TV Show Gets Made

What are three ways that television production is different than feature film production?  What did you find interesting about this process?

Episodes and scripts per episode are given to different directors and DPs sometimes. Every episode would require a table read where the cast will sit around and read through the script. An editor will make the first cut of the episode and give it to the director, director will give their cut to the show runners, show runners will then give notes to give it back and thats the producers cut, and that will go to the studio which is the final cut to be released. What I found most interesting about the process is that they will make the whole story instead of just by episode so that they have a concise idea of everything.

Director of Photography

Why is the director of photography role so important in a film?  What are some of their responsibilities on a film?

The director of photography are very important to a film because they are responsible for the filming part of making the film. They are the head of the camera department and work closely with the director to film the film. Some responsibilities they have are establishing composition and approving and flagging usable and in-usable footage. They work with the camera operator and tell them what to do.

Producer

Why is the producer's role so important in a film?  What are some of their responsibilities on the movie crew?

The producer is very vital to the film because of they are the decision maker of the film, they will hire the writers, director, and they will decide the budget. Some of their other responsibilities are to work along side the director creatively, approve locations, they also have a lot of legal responsibility in regards to the film.

Who's Who On A Film Crew

Why are there so many different jobs on a movie crew?  What is one job that you learned about in this video that you'd never heard of.  Why might it seem interesting?

There are so many different jobs on a film crew because every job will need more than one person with it and theres jobs that specialize in all aspects of the project. One job I learned about was a Gaffer, they are in charge of doing lighting design and mapping out all the lights and such. It seems interesting because lighting seems like a very simple topic but its very precise because of the different angles you will need.

The Final Cut

What is the role of the final edit in the post-production process?  How is it different from the assembly and rough cuts?

The role of the final edit in the post-production process is to make final tweaks and redundancies. With the final cut you will also begin to place your music and add transitions that are set in stone. The final cut is different than the assembly and rough cut because with the assembly cut all you are doing is logging footage and starting to assemble it all together, with the rough cut its a brief outline of how it is going to look but with the final edit everything comes together.

What To Call Out

In your own words, write a paragraph on what needs to be called on set before what and explain why it is so important.  Refer to the Production Process slides if needed.

The things that must be called before you can call action on a set consist of; AD calling "Lock it up!, "Pictures up!", "Quiet everyone", and then the Sound Mixer calls "Sound Speed!, after that the AD calls "Roll Camera", camera op calls "Camera Speed". After all of that the 2nd AC will assume position with the slate open and then calls, "ROLL, SHOT, TAKE" and then "marker" and claps the slate, the camera op will then refocus for action and call "Set!", after all of that has been called and completed the Director will call "Action!". All of these are important because it gets everyone on the same page and ensures that everyone is doing their job because they must call it out in order to proceed to the next step before action.

How To Read A Call Sheet

After watching the video, how can understanding and effectively using a call sheet contribute to better communication and organization on a film set?

Using a call sheet effectively will help with better communication as long as you make sure you go into detail while still letting the sheet be readable for your cast and crew. With the call sheet it holds those accountable because they must read the call sheet and that has everything you should come prepared with and where on shoot day. So if someone were to forget something that would be on them not you because they had to read the call sheet.

Shots VS Setups

What is the main difference between a shot vs. a setup?   What is the most important thing to keep in mind when you're going to shoot a scene?

A shot is what you are trying to shoot in order of the scene, a set up would be you shooting everything in line with your lighting and everything else in the scene. When you are going to shoot a scene you should take into account how the current shot you are shooting is set up and then you should look through and see if other shots have the same set up so you can film all those together.

Coverage

In your own words explain what coverage is.  Why is it so important when you are shooting?

Coverage is all the different angles and shots in your scene. With coverage you can really add the emotion you want to have in the scene with the different shots and angles, by using different types of coverage it can add to the comedy or action and by using less coverage it can add to the dramatization and heaviness of your scene. This is important when shooting because it gives you more to work with in post production as well as helps you get the emotion you want in your project.

Shot Lists

What is a shot list?  Why is it so important?

A shot list is a list of shots (crazy i know) you want in your project to give you an insight and an organized outline of the kind of shots you want. To make a shot list you should go through your script scene-by-scene and list the shots that you want in that scene. When making your shot list you should group together the shots for your characters to have a better organization. It's important because once you actually begin shooting it takes up less time because you have a set idea of the shots you want and how you want them, it makes it easier for everyone working with you because you aren't wasting their time scrambling around figuring out shots.

How To Shoot An Interview

What are three key suggestions that this video brings up?  Why are each of these so important?  How could you use them in future production...
